FIND THE CONTROLS
In the upper right corner of your screen you will see three buttons: a music note, a movie camera and a speaker icon.
The MUSIC NOTE ICON gives you access to the audio stream of the land.
Every simulated land you visit has the option to set streaming audio for their visitors. On the land stream you might hear a radio station, an interview or discussion group, or perhaps a live musician on stage singing songs from their living room to yours. What you hear depends on where you are and what is going on around you. More often than not, you can click the music note and be entertained.
When the audio stream is active, the music note icon will change to a “pause button” icon. To silence the land stream and turn off the streaming audio function, click the pause button.
Sometimes you will hear people suggest you “TOGGLE” to hear the land stream. This simply means clicking the music note icon a couple of times to turn the streaming audio function off and then on again. This is often needed to reset the audio function in your viewer when one live performer ends their show, and another performer begins.
And sometimes the audio gets hinky and doesn’t work for you at all, but seems to work just fine for others around you. Don’t panic. You haven’t done anything wrong. You just need to do a quick ear cleaning. Log off by closing your Firestorm Viewer and log on again. Remember to log-in using your “last location” option and you will be right back where you started!
PARCEL MEDIA (Video, Web Browsers on Prims, etc.)
The MOVIE CAMERA ICON gives you access to videos and other web browser media.
So for instance, you might find yourself at a drive-in theater. When you first enter the area, it appears that everyone is staring at a blank screen. If your media settings are not set to auto run, you will need to touch (left-click) the screen to begin your media experience.
Imagine…sitting in a theater watching a movie with people all over the world!
Inspiration Island has a drive-in movie theater where we gather and watch a movie the first Sunday of every month!
Remember, if the movie doesn’t auto-play,touch the screen to begin your media experience.

This option pertains to “in-world” sounds. This could be birds, waterfalls, audio attached to an avatar gesture (Step #16), or audio installed into a statue by the developer.
Test your sounds now.
(1) turn your sounds on by checking the box to the right of the “sounds” slider, and
(2) adjust the volume, turn up your volumes by moving the slider to the right.
If you are on the Virtual World Survival Trail at Inspiration Island, you should now hear the bamboo chimes located at Checkpoint 4 of the Virtual World Survival Trail…and you might hear one of our peacocks too!
Some people hang out and chat in real time voice.
To hear the chatter, make sure the checkbox next to “Voice” is active, and your volume slider is adjusted appropriately.
See the Extra Credit Bonus Tip to set up your own mic and join in!
TO MUTE SOME or ALL SOUNDS
If the nature noise is too much for you as you continue your studies, just uncheck the box next to sounds. Or turn off your ears completely by clicking the main speaker icon. This action will turn off all audio functions completely and the icon is replaced to reflect that change. Click the icon again to unmute your audio system.
