Tuesday Nights at the Library Loft -Accept the Challenge!

Tuesday nights at the Library Loft, 5pm-7pm Pacific Time are all about YOU and your dreams.

We know it’s difficult to carve out time to do the things you love, so we created an official day and time to do just that!  Whether you are a writer, artist, crafter or just want to read that book that has been sitting on your end table, Tuesday Nights at the Library Loft offers an opportunity to “schedule” a date with yourself.

If you are a writer, have you heard about the Novemember Challenge to write a novel in a month? Use this time to get focused and get that writing done!

At 7PM we head over to Nara’s Nook Library on Greyville to share our chapter work for commentary and critique.  Hope you can join us!

Thank you to Wikipedia for this great description:

National Novel Writing Month (often shortened to NaNoWriMo, is an annual, Internet-based creative writing project that takes place during the month of November. Participants attempt to write a 50,000 word manuscript between November 1 and November 30. Well-known authors write “pep-talks” to keep them motivated throughout the process. The website provides participants with tips for writer’s block, information on where local participants are meeting, and an online community of support. NaNoWriMo focuses on the length of a work rather than the quality, encouraging writers to finish their first draft so that it can later be edited at the author’s discretion. The project started in July 1999 with 21 participants. By the 2010 event, over 200,000 people took part and wrote a total of over 2.8 billion words.

Writers wishing to participate first register on the project’s website, where they can post profiles and information about their novels, including synopses and excerpts. Participants are called Wrimos. Word counts are validated on the site, with writers submitting a copy of their novel for automatic counting. Municipal leaders and regional forums help connect local writers, holding writing events and providing encouragement.

The wild west is no place for sissies

Hi everybody,

We had an amazing time at drive-in movie night. Great people and a great atmosphere.

In honor of the movie, I’m going to give you guys a very quick movie review. If you were with us last night, or you just love the movie, feel free to leave a comment with your thoughts as well.

True Grit 1969

This one is a classic in the true sense of the word. A star-studded cast led by The Duke, John Wayne. Featuring Glen Campbell, Robert Duval, and Dennis Hopper just to name a few.

Mattie Ross, played by Kim Darby seeks the help of Marshal Rooster Cogburn to get revenge after her father is brutally murdered by Tom Chaney played by Jeff Corey. Her reason for seeking rooster’s help is very simple,  he is rumored to be a man with “True Grit”.

There is lots of drama and comedy as Mattie has to work hard to convince Mr. Cogburn to put down his jug of whiskey and take the job. After some haggling, Rooster agrees to take the job. Things get interesting when Mattie, a teenage girl, insists on going with him to see things through. He affectionately refers to her as “baby sister” a nickname my dad uses to this day.

Nearly the entire movie takes place Outdoors. The scenery is wonderful and truly captures the idea of the Old West. There are plenty of chases on horseback, gun flights and Mattie even goes toe to toe with a rattlesnake.

My dad has always been a huge fan of westerns so John Wayne movies are a big part of my life. I wouldn’t say True Grit is the best John Wayne movie, or even in my top five, but it has everything you want in a western classic.

I really enjoyed watching this one with friends from all over the world, who probably grew up differently than I did. It was said multiple times during the movie that they just don’t make films like this anymore.

If you’d like to join us, we have driving movie night the first Sunday of every month at 5 p.m. Pacific time. We’d love to see you there.

Thanks for reading I hope you will join us next month. You can learn how to do that RIGHT HERE

Are you ready to get creative? PRIMtionary – Tomorrow at 5pm Pacific!

OPEN INVITATION

WHAT:  PRIMtionary Game Night

WHEN:  Every 3rd Sunday of the Month at 5pm Pacific / 8pm Eastern

IMPORTANT NOTE:  If you don’t like to laugh…this event is not for you.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Very similar to the popular Pictionary game, only with 3D primitive objects. The builder draws a random word from the pack. Using 3D primitives and colors only (no textures), they build a representation of the word while their team guesses the answer. How creative and imaginative can you be?  That question applies to both the brave souls doing the 3D prim building AND those doing the guessing.

If you are new to building in virtual worlds and have no idea how to get started, come join the fun anyway!  Take advantage of the mentors at the event and ask whatever questions you need to get started.  Before long you will be INSPIRED to move from the guessing side of the table to the building side.
